HISTORY

The Federation of Chinese Canadian Professionals (Québec) was established on November 26, 1993 in response to the need for the formation of an organization of Chinese Canadian Professionals in Québec to promote their well-being. This organization will serve to liaise and cooperate with Chinese Canadian Professionals from other provinces as well as with the Chinese professionals around the world, to exchange professional knowledge, to develop Chinese professional businesses, and possibly to engage in research to provide better opportunities for Chinese Canadians in certain professions. Since the Charter Night of the Federation, eight committees have been organized. These committees include the Secretariat, the Treasury, the Programme Committee, the Public Relations Committee, the Newsletter Committee and the Ad Hoc Committee for the Federation Logo.

FCCP LOGO

In 1994, this design was chosen from the different submissions to encapsulate the identity of FCCP into a logo.  Happily, the FCCP logo is now a distinctive part of our image and our trademark.

An explanation on the design of the logo  in the Fall 1994 of the FCCP Newsletter still rings true today.

The logo resembles the Chinese character which signifies the Chinese nation (Middle Kingdom), people, culture, language and heritage.  When combined with the character for heart , it becomes which means honesty.  This is one of our Federation’s key goals - to uphold the ethical standards of the professionals.  As professionals, our role is to provide leadership to our community, promote the Chinese culture and be proud of our heritage.

The outer ellipse represents the world and the inner ellipse is Canada.  The simple Chinese brush stroke represents Chinese professionals and community. We are the “bridge” linking Canada with the rest of the world, especially the Pacific Rim countries.  As an organization, we have a central and important role to play in a very competitive global economy.

The choice of the Chinese brush stroke to represent our Federation is most appropriate.  The Chinese brush is a simple and powerful writing tool that has brought Chinese culture and knowledge to the forefront of all cultures.  Our members hail from different parts of the world but we share a common language.  From our parents, we have inherited a rich, beautiful and wonderful culture that is widely admired and envied.

The logo's colours are symbolic of the three societies in which we live – red as a traditional colour of good fortune favoured by the Chinese, and together with white and blue represents the official colours of Canada (red maple leaf) and Quebec (blue fleur-de-lys).

We are pleased to announce that the FCCP logo has been formally registered as a Canadian trademark with the Canadian Trade Marks Office under Registration No. TMA603,794 on March 2, 2004 in association with use in Canada since 1995 on the wares and services of FCCP, namely:  wares of pins, banners, T-shirts and newsletters, and services of an organization to promote the cultural and professional interests of Chinese Canadians, and more particularly, in Quebec, as well as the exchange of professional knowledge and the development of professional opportunities for Chinese Canadians in Canada and around the world.

The trade mark agents of record for FCCP is the Montreal law firm of DE GRANDPRÉ CHAIT.
